Sonoma Wines: 2014 Decoy Sonoma County Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc might just be our favorite white wine grape. We love many California Sauvignon Blancs. We love Pouilly-Fumé, We love Bordeux Blanc. We love New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We love Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. There are probably other regions we should name check, but you get the idea.

Our current favorite Sauvignon Blanc is made in Sonoma. This isn't that wine, but we thought we'd give it a try. At $17 we figured we had nothing to lose. We've had Decoy before, but never any of their white offerings.

Our tasting notes:

Pale straw-yellow in color. Peach, pineapple & honeycomb on the nose. Medium bodied and well rounded. A little bit of white peach on the tip on the tongue and meyer lemon at the back of the palate, but pink grapefruit is far & away the dominant flavor. There's a huge amount of orange zest on the finish. It cotes all the surface in your mouth: lips, cheeks, gums & tongue. As it fades there's something like parsley on the mid palate. Our guess would be this wine is aged in either steel or concrete, but our money's on steel.

It's a good, solid California Sauvignon Blanc. It's not great. About what you'd expect for $17. If you're looking for a crisp, citrus heavy white to pair with seafood or lamb, you could certainly do worse.
